Resilience and togetherness

The London Stansted travel snafu resulted in a long transit day for the Rogues. A day full of ambiguity, nervousness, second guessing and lots of …..questions -“is the security line really 2 hours long?”,”are we going to make our flight?”,”do we just stay in London or should we we get closer to our final destination?”,”what’s this going to cost us?”,”where are we going to sleep tonight?”,”why are we not boarding?!”,”should we just stay in the airport?!?”

It was a litmus test for us … a baselining of how each of us processes and deals with this level of disruption, this level of change in expectation. It was a test of patience. It was a test of analysis and decisiveness. It was a test of trust. It was a test of resilience and togetherness.

Those pictures of us, squeezing into an elevator was at about 1am, in the two-star Columbo Hotel just outside of Venice’s mainland train station after 30 min in the airport looking for wifi, considering options, calling a few places, doing cartwheels, and taking short taxi ride. It was one final test. Can we do it? Can we fit all 4 of us, into what appeared to be Elisha Otis’ first elevator from 1857? Can we pass this one last test, standing between us and our beds? Only if we work together – with smiles on our faces, we shifted, crammed, and adjusted bodies, pulled each other close, until that slide door closed and … EVER SO SLOWLY started heading up to the 4th floor. We passed the last test of the day … we were resilient we were REALLY CLOSE together.
